OCTOBER – VOCATIONAL SERVICE MONTH

Oct is when Vocational Service gets special emphasis.
Clubs should arrange activities to promote the ideals of Vocational Service

Vocational service projects will result in positive publicity for Rotary Clubs.

Here are some possibilities:
-Give honor & recognition to an outstanding employee or public servant
            i.e. Circle City Rotary – Employers Recognition Day

Present the program:
-Present High Ethical Standards in Business
            by Yourself   - Circle City Rotary – LAWYER

-Present the Craft Talk Program
            Ask 3 members to talk specifically on their vocation
                        Telling the club something they do not already know
                        i.e.  Evans Leak Detection

2008 4-Way Test Speech Contest Information

Attached is the 2008 4-Way Speech Test Contest information for your club’s local competition. Below is a brief Mid Level schedule with times and a list of participating clubs to come to you in a future communication. Last Year 33 clubs participated; our goal for 2008 is 36-37.

Rules :: Download

The club contest coordinator needs to make contact with the High School to solicit participants and to set the schedule for the February club competition.

The District 4-Way Test Contest Final is scheduled to occur at the District Conference on Saturday April 19, 2008.

The Mid Level contests are scheduled as follows:

· Monday, March 10th in Redlands

· Tuesday, March 11th in Temecula/Murrieta

· Wednesday, March 12th in San Bernardino

· Monday, March 17th in Palm Springs

· Tuesday March 18th in Riverside

These are the same locations as last year.
In January, I’ll forward a schedule listing each club with directions to each site.

If I have difficulties locating judges for the Mid Levels, I’ll send a request to all members asking for their help. All Judges from last year have agreed to help again if their schedule permits.

Club coordinators: Please make certain that each contestant has a copy of the rules and review those rules with them. Please emphasize that the 4-Way Test must be addressed in the speech. The judges should also be reminded of this important fact. Please feel free to call me for assistance,

Music Competition

Rules :: Download

The 9th Annual District Music Competition is in full swing. Many of your clubs already have an active chairman, and you are on a roll. I would appreciate receiving the names, emails and phone numbers of your Music Competition chairs.

If your club has never participated or hasn’t recently, but you are thinking about it, I would like to help you get started. For those who have already scheduled club competitions, I would like to hear from you about when your competitions are scheduled.

Please note that because the District Conference is early this year, all the club competitions will also have to be done earlier than usual. Applications for your musicians must be submitted by Friday, February 29, 2008 (no exceptions) to the District Music Competition Chair:
Allan Morphett, (951) 659-2235
(W) (951) 659-8236
(cell) (951) 642-3310
amorphett@aol.com

The 2008 rules will be basically the same as last year. The semi-finals and finals will be held again at the University of Redlands, probably in the middle of March. Please have your Music Competition Chair contact me as soon as possible.
